Buying a Skateboard

3. Wheels and Bearings

Wheels

Skateboard wheels are made of hard plastic and are attached to the skateboard by the trucks. They have different diameters and hardness, and for tricks, you will probably want fairly small wheels. This will make your skateboard lower to the ground. The wheels should also be fairly hard, although this will cause them to transfer vibrations more on rough ground.

Bearings

Bearings are small enclosed disc shaped devices that go between the wheels and trucks, allowing the skateboard to roll. The metal ball bearings are inside these discs, so you won't be able to see them unless a bearing breaks. All skateboard bearings are fairly standard, and you shouldn't concern yourself with expensive bearings if you are just learning skateboarding.
